EQUIPMENT

Be Prepared! This motto of the Boys Brigade and the Glasgow Police Force has stood me in good stead on many a Tarrier hunt. I'm always reluctant to mention my 30 years as Special Constable with the Boys in Blue learning the CRAFT sometimes almost twice a month. Their tools of the trade are a bedrock of investigative detecting and ensure that I am always READY! Blending in to a Tarrier environment is always a tricky business but armed with my equipment it is only a matter of time before I catch me a Tarrier.

FOOTWEAR

Having walked the beat on occasional weekends for 30 years and having been on a lot of walks I know the value of a good shoe. The Brogue is your friend! Be careful to apply only a MEDIUM polish when in the vicinity of a Tarrier area!

INTEL

My time on the beat on the odd Saturday over 30 years taught me the value of taking notes. The notepad is your friend if you also have a pen as well! Be CAUTIOUS not to use a blue Bic in a sector renowned for Tarrier activity!

RULE BOOK

30 years pounding the beat beside real policemen teaches you that you need RULES! The KJB is your friend except the bit about feeding 5000 Tarriers with fish on a Friday! Beware not to openly read this in a well recognised Tarrier stronghold!

TRAVEL

My 30 years on the beat one day a week and filling in on holidays taught me that you have to be able to REACT quickly. A travel pass is your friend! The SPTE's marquee  branding of it's transport stable in Protestant orange ensures it as a Tarrier free zone.Travel easy!

SURVEILANCE

You don't spend 30 years with decent Bobbies sometimes on a SUNDAY and not pick up some tips, A friendly and concealed  camera is your friend! Be  rest assured that the pics are going to be coming soon when I find a Tarrier and my new assistant learns me how to print them!

PROVISIONS

One thing I learned from real Coppers in 30 years of beat walking is to never go hungry. The ORANGE Club is your friend! A pack of seven slips neatly into an inside blazer pocket. Caution! Unwrapping deep within Tarrier territory is a high risk manoeuvre. Practice!
